Pinky’s Rooftop opens in downtown Royal Oak
Pinky’s Rooftop restaurant, above Diamond’s Steak & Seafood in downtown Royal Oak, is now open.
With a vintage vibe, the rooftop location has dining and lounge seating with an outdoor garden.
Pinky’s occupies the space where Red Fox English Pub used to been back when the steakhouse on the ground floor was Cantino Diablo’s.
“Pinky’s has its own distinctive personality showcased through the menu and décor,” said Adam Merkel, owner of Merkel Restaurants, in a statement. “Our goal was to bring a stand-out, one-of-a-kind experience to Royal Oak’s dining and nightlife scene, and I think we hit it.”
Merkel and culinary director Craig Myrand created Pinky’s menu, which features American- and Asian-inspired small plates and seafood that includes signature dishes such as Sashimi, Black Truffle Ramen, and Short Rib Wonton Tacos.
Specialty craft cocktails include offerings like Pinky’s Ice Pops, Turning Japanese and The Buddha.
The restaurant covers 4,336 square feet and seats 83 patrons inside the garden-themed outdoor rooftop. There is a 27-seat, all-season patio and an outdoor patio with 44 seats.
Starting May 4 the restaurant will begin offering a weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, followed by regular dining hours from 2 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Pinky’s is inspired by an old restaurant and one-time speakeasy in Detroit that was called Pinky’s Boulevard Club.
Both Pinky’s and Diamond’s are Adam Merkel restaurants, which include three restaurants in Howell in Livingston County.
Merkel opened Diamond’s in the fall of 2018..
In Royal Oak, Merkel is the managing partner of the two restaurants. He entered a partnership last year with Brian Kramer, who owned the former Red Fox English Pub and Cantina Diablo’s properties.
Merkel is expected to become the sole owner of the property within several years.
